While everyone’s biggest hope is that covid-19 won’t be a part of the story, the Mesquite Independent School District board made some big decisions for the 2021-2022 school year.

First, the biggest change for high school students is they will be switching to a nine-week grading period. That means there will be four nine-week sessions rather than six six-week sessions. While it means fewer opportunities to bring grades up if students don’t work as they should, it also means more accurate grades and more time to work on assignments.

School will start a bit earlier, with seasoned teachers coming back for six days of professional learning on Aug. 3 and students starting Wednesday, Aug. 11.

Spring break will be the third week of March and Good Friday will be a guaranteed holiday.

School will end before Memorial Day.

More detail will be provided in subsequent stories.
